The Renting Support Service
The Renting Support Service has been set up to help people who are homeless to access Private Rented accommodation. Referrals are generally, therefore, via Plymouth's Housing Advice service.
For these clients, we carry out a housing needs assessment, looking at people options and aiming to support them to gain their own tenancy. One of the ways we may do this by providing a Deposit Guarantee where people cannot afford a deposit to secure a property.
A Deposit Guarantee (DG) is a written agreement between Path and a landlord/lady. It guarantees that, if at the end of a tenancy there are any rent arrears or damage, Path will reimburse the landlord/lady up to the agreed value of the guarantee.
There are three basic criteria that you must meet in order to access this scheme:
- Qualify for Housing Benefit/Local Housing Allowance
- Homeless or threatened with homelessness
- Not have the means to provide your own deposit
There are a number of different ways to find out if you can get help through this scheme. In the first instance you can either pop into Midland House and talk to Plymouth City Council's Housing Advice team about your housing situation, or call the DG team for more information.
What you will need to bring with you:
In order that we can make a quick decision about whether we can help you we need you to bring the following information with you when you come to see us:
- Proof of ID
- Proof of Income
- Last 2 months bank statements
- Details or anyone we can contact for a reference
